Acquired by the RSPB early in 2005, Cattawade Marshes is 44ha of lowland wet grassland with 2ha of reedbed, between the freshwater and tidal branches of the River Stour. During the summer lapwing, redshank and several duck species breed, and in winter it has good numbers of wildfowl including teal and wigeon.
Visiting
West of the A137 from Ipswich to Manningtree, south of Cattawade. Park at Manningtree station or along the Cattawade river barrage.
Manningtree railway station is about 15 minutes' walk.
No public access but good views can be had from the public footpath to Flatford on the south side of the river that leaves the A137 south of the White Bridge.
